Job Purpose and Brief:
Purpose: To support the production of high quality, engaging materials that communicate the changes being achieved by Ratanak programs in relevant ways to both local and international supporters and partners.
Job Brief: The Communications officer has a focus on documenting the impact of Ratanaks’ work on both individuals and systems. They are responsible for gathering stories and images in an appropriate and ethical way, ensuring these are shared in a timely and relevant way to international offices. This involves training and coaching others as well as engaging with Ratanak and partner projects directly to gather information; which requires creativity, initiative and maintaining excellent relationships with a wide range of stakeholders.
Duties
- Investigate and gather narrative and impact information across Ratanak and partner programs, understanding and documenting the changes taking place in individuals and systems.
- Write client story notes that are engaging, informative, and effective for fund raising purposes or donor engagement. Ensure that the story notes are produced and sent to the communication team at international headquarters (IHQ) on time.
- Gather and create content for IHQ to use in newsletters, project reports, client updates, social media, websites, or other print materials.
- Maintain digital media archives including photos and videos.
- Ensure branding guidelines, photo policies, and consent form policies are adhered to.
- Work with Ratanak and partner staff to photograph the work being done in creative and engaging ways. Review, select, and edit quality images taken by staff and partners and store them appropriately in the photo library.
- Plan video production which will tell the story of client or project activities including developing storyline, capturing footage, writing script, captioning, and editing.
- Support the design and production of Ratanak materials such as procedure manuals, research studies, brochures, and handbooks.
- Attend relevant events with government bodies and other organizations to capture key messages for communication purposes.
- Train and coach other staff and partners on gathering images and narrative descriptions.
- Communicate regularly and pro-actively with IHQ, especially the communications and fundraising team, as well as other international offices and partners, maintaining a clear understanding of the information and images that support the work of these offices.
- Translate stories, information, and other documents from Khmer to English and vice versa as required.
- Attend agent meetings, team meetings, and briefings as needed, including regular project design and review meetings internally.
- Engage in ongoing personal development to ensure a comprehensive knowledge of key issues related to communications skills, exploitation, and trafficking.

- Experience & Skills:
- Essential:
- Degree and/or post-graduate qualification in communications, media or other relevant field.
- Demonstrated competence in documenting or creating stories in writing and photographic media.
- Excellent in writing skills and content creation with knowledge of ethical storytelling.
- Ability to use multimedia and design software such as InDesign, Photoshop, Premiere, DaVinci Resolve.
- Fluent in English (equivalent to IELTS level 6 or above).
- Desired:
- Ability to handle and use constructive feedback to make needed changes.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a variety of stakeholders.
- Portfolio of story writing, graphic design, photography, or video editing.
- Experience and knowledge of trafficking & exploitation issues.
- Experience delivering training and/or coaching.
- Experience working in rural and community settings.
- Experience as a journalist or in other media roles.
